Sarah's Blog ~ Thoughts, Mom tips

Hello! It's back to school time, so all of us Moms are busy making sure our kids have everything they need to do well in school. I found the perfect helper for this! This website helps your kids practice their spelling words, and play games with those words! I love this website!!

Need a little boost to get you up and cleaning? My favorite trick for this is to watch a cleaning show. I watch Clean House, and recently have started watching How Clean Is Your House. This show is a great motivator! One glance at these houses and you remember why you spend so much of your time on your home, LOL! It gets me up and going not only by freaking me out by teaching me about hidden germs, how a house can get when not cleaned, but also by giving my lots of fun tips on new ways to clean things! Several of my tips come from watching this show.

Your Keyboard, a hard one to figure out how to clean for a lot of us. Did you know that because of the heat put off from the computer germs grow easily on your keyboard. This makes many keyboards as germ infected as a toilet!! EWW! (that reminds me off another fav. fact of mine.. Hand dryers in restrooms grow germs because of the heat, making them grow germs much faster than the toilet seats we cover with paper...) So anyway, looking for a good creative way to clean that keyboard? Of course make sure your comp. is off and unplugged first. Then mix 50% hot water and 50% mouthwash together in a cup and get a small paint brush. Dip the brush in your solution then squeeze most of the excess liquid off the brush and begin on the keyboard. You can get around the surface this way as well as brushing between keys. (mouthwash is also a good way to wash your phones.) This will clean and kill germs at the same time! :)

Ok Vinegar is my new amazement this month! I can't believe all the things a little vinegar can do! Like I mentioned before a bit applied to sore mussels does wonders. We all know its great for washing windows. Add to that list apple cider vinegar applied to warts... actually cures then!!! How cool is that! Put a little on a Cotton ball put it on the wart apply a bandage and do this till the wart gives up, its worked for many people! Weeds, vinegar applied to thistles and such will kill them as well as using those scary icky chemicals! Be careful to use only on the weed and if you must saturate a large area you will need to fertilize the area when finished to bring the soil back to good health.

Banana Peels: Polish your shoes with banana peels!! Polish your plant leaves with banana peels, they look beautiful and they love it! You love how it makes your plants look and your plants love the food (potassium) they can draw from the peel.

Pet hair on whatever it may be (we know its pretty much everything LOL) try putting on a rubber glove and just wipe away the hair!!

Oil stains either on your cloths from cooking or in your garage from working on the cars great trick to get them out is easy as dabbing with either Coke or Pepsi and washing out!!!

Rag Rugs: I was reading a book that was set about a hundred years ago, it kept mentioning their braided rag rugs. I liked the sounds of that since I have tuns of cloths scraps and different rags stashed in my closets. So, I asked my Mom about it and she knew all about them and several people in our family make them. I also did a google search on them and found a lot of articles and YouTube videos on how to make them. Really neat and a lot of fun!

Shin Splints: My daughter was recently in track and like most track stars had major shin splint problems. I found the most east and amazing solution! Vinegar, yup you heard right. Vinegar worked wonders on her shin pain. Just put some vinegar on a paper town and wrap on shin or use a bandage pad taped on. The reason this works is the vinegar draws out lactic acid which is one of the main causes of body aches. This also works for other body aches and pains involving sore muscles. :)

Marker and Crayon in unwanted places: Most of us know of the magic behind the magic eraser by now.. but if you haven't tried it yet... You should. I find new uses for it all of the time. It is truly amazing the things I have cleaned using these little magic sponges! When we moved into our new home there was marker and crayon on raw wood, I figured nothing could get these marks out, but my magic eraser did!! :)

Take Care everyone will let you know when I hear more great tricks for making our busy lives easier, cheaper, and/or greener! These are just ideas I have gathered over time, they come from: my Mom, other Mom's, cleaning shows, Mom Mags, Books, life, and the Internet. To learn more about any of my tips ~ either ask me or type them into a search on the Internet and read up! :)
